Abu Dhabi to open used cooking oil production plant this year

The emirate Abu Dhabi expects to complete a facility by the end of this year that will recycle used cooking oil and transform it into biofuel.

The project aims to develop a community-based system that involves collecting used-cooking oil from hotels, restaurants, homes and other sources, said Saeed Al Mehairbi, acting general manager, of Tadweer, Abu Dhabi’s waste management authority.

Tadweer told local media that the agency aims at recycling 65% of all types of wastes in Abu Dhabi by 2020 and emulate neighbouring Dubai, which exports biodiesel produced from used cooking oil.
