4 May 2018 |

US ethanol exports in March were the second-biggest ever for a monthly total, totalling 215.1 million gallons (mg), according to government data released this week and analysed by the Renewable Fuels Association (RFA).

Exports in March were 2% below February’s record export volume, with Brazil featuring as the main destination for US ethanol exports for the fifth straight month, taking 95.9 mg (45% of total exports), the RFA said on its website.

Canada was the second-biggest export market in March, with 24.6 mg sent to Canada, up 11% from February’s volumes while China received 19.8 mg, before the imposition by Beijing-based authorities in April of an additional 15% import duty on ethanol.

For the first time in four months, the US imported significant volumes of ethanol, taking 1.6 mg of undenatured fuel from Brazil.
